The monumental flags, visualizing the average temperature changes in Busan, highlight the escalating impacts of global warming. By emphasizing attention to the rising frequency and intensity of heatwaves, they mark a shift in how climate alerts are visualized. Drawing on familiarly aware signs like “Limit outdoor activities during midday,” the work expands these alerts into a visual language, transforming them into both literal signals and powerful metaphors.
The piece reminds us of the urgent need to rethink our daily habits and social systems in response to air pollution and climate change. At the same time, it creates a space where people are aware and in solidarity around the climate crisis, and demonstrate how art can contribute to shaping a socially conscious and responsible community.
